- The $1000 iPhone app - Kottke says people are humorless for being outraged at the $999 iPhone application for sale (now pulled from the store) that does nothing except show a image of a ruby. (Update: Previously, I noted that Apple doesn’t have a shopping cart for the app store, but that’s not true. They do have shopping cart functionality, but it is doesn’t work with the App Store.) All it takes is one mis-click, one misstep of the cat’s paw to have $999 charged to your credit card. And what’s your recourse? “I didn’t mean to buy it?”
Ryan: gotta say I agree with Kottke on that one; it’s lame to see people outraged over this. If you don’t want the $1000 iPhone app, don’t buy it. If you want to make sure you don’t purchase it, then be extra careful not to mis-click.
Apple was wrong to pull the item from the store...kinda goes against the basic fundamentals of capitalism, as far as I’m concerned. Make it available for anyone...whether people will actually purchase it is a different story.
