Short review

It’s a great chair. Buy one.

Long Review

A lot of people probably have not heard of the Teknion line of office furniture. I hadn’t until a visit to Edge Office (from where I co-work on occassion) where I tested one out and placed my order. You see, I had been scoping out the typical web-geek-yuppie-I-spend-all-day-sitting-on-my-rear-maybe-I-should-take-out-insurance-on-it chairs and was set on getting on an Aeron.

Then I came across the Teknion Contessa. Why did I choose it? There were a few reasons:


  • Features: The Teknion Contessa comes with: adjustable arm rests, adjustable lumbar, adjustable seat (front-to-back) and, of course, the whole chair adjusts up and down. This feature set is, in my opinion, superior to even the top of the line Aeron. And, even better, it allows me to adjust the chair to my exact liking using precise controls.

  • Try it Before You Buy It: Because I was spending time co-working at Edge Office, I was able to test the chair for a longer period of time.

  • Supporting Local Businesses: As I mentioned above, I was set on purchasing a top model Aeron from a company like Sit4Less.com. Instead, I opted to support a local business, who regularly gives back to the community.

I’ve been using the chair for about 3 weeks and every time I sit down it I’m reminded why it was such a great purchase.

    Ryan, have you ever owned/used an Aeron chair? You mention it briefly as an option in the post but wondering if you had the chance to compare the two.

    Les, I have used a couple of Herman Miller chairs (Aeron, Mirra) but have never owned one. I think they’re great chairs.

    I have been asked to purchase a Executive Office Chair for my employer. I have browsed the internet and the most expensive I have found is a Lombard Luxury Executive for £160. The CEO is a very wealthy and I really can’t find the grade he would be happy with. Is there anywhere online that retail’s the ultimate luxury leather office chairs?
